Featured Furball: Lil Miss
Ready to fall in love? Let Lil Miss win your heart! Lil Miss is an absolutely one of a kind kitty. She takes time to come out of her shell, but once she knows you're a friend, she will astound you with all the love she has to give. Lil Miss was born with a "special" paw that doesn't slow her down, and definitely doesn't stop her from making biscuits in your lap. She is looking for a patient family who will give her the time she needs to become the affectionate companion she so wants to be. Once she blooms, we know she will make you fall in love every day! Bring this amazing cat into your life today at our East End shelter. Search AnimalsFeatured Furball: Flynn
Meet Flynn, short for Flynn Rider! Just like his namesake, Flynn is a dashing young prince just waiting to steal your heart! Once you get past his hardened exterior, Flynn loves his treats and being petted by his favorite people. His cage space is very special to him, and he enjoys rearranging his belongings to his liking and making art with cardboard boxes. Flynn would love to find a home with an experienced rabbit person, and may do well with another rabbit with proper introductions. Flynn can't wait to show you what just a little love and patience can do! Search AnimalsFeatured Furball: Torte
Torte is a cute and sassy girl looking for her forever home! She likes to have her space to roam around and do her thing, and when she's down for some cuddles, she will ask you for them! She's so beautiful and has such a fun personality, she'll fit in with anyone who is also spunky and living life to the fullest. She can be your best gal pal that you have sleepovers with ALL. THE. TIME. How fun is that?! Meet Torte at our East End location today! Search AnimalsFeatured Furball: Corkie
If you are interested in learning more, or meeting him, please reach out to his foster mom at dssmithmrse@aol.com! Corkie is his very own special kind of little guy. He loves loves loves playing with people with wand and fishing rod type toys, enjoys a sunny window and bird watching and purrs for brushing and petting. He is not at all a fan of other cats or laps for very long. He prefers sitting by your side and being the pampered only pet. He is sometimes stubborn and lots of times feisty-playful! When it's time to eat, he says so. When he is irritated he complains with loud mrrrrrs and swats at your legs (claws in). For every act of insistence, there are three of Corkie communicating love and happiness with head bunts and talking eyes. He's selfish with his love though - he should be the only pet! Corkie is a great companion, wanting to be nearby and helping with whatever is going on. Need company? In return for the price of some allergy meds (he pills easily) and prescription food and praise (he DOES love told he is a good or handsome boy) you can have a best kitty friend and lots of fun! If you are interested in learning more, or meeting him, please reach out to his foster mom at dssmithmrse@aol.com! Search Animals
How to Adopt
Humane Animal Rescue’s adoption team works to match people with an adoptable animal. To assist with making a match, an adoption counselor will learn more about the adopter and share information about the animals.
Adoption Process
Adoptable animals can be viewed online. You must visit with the animal at the adoption center or partner business location to complete the adoption process. If you plan to adopt, please arrive an hour before the adoption center is scheduled to close.
Step 1: Fill out the adoption questionnaire (link to questionnaire)
A completed adoption questionnaire will be reviewed by staff before meeting an animal. This one page application helps our counselors learn more about your lifestyle and expectations of your new pet! Questionnaires are accepted on first come-first serve basis.
Step 2: Meet Adoptable Animals!
An adoption team member or volunteer will share information about the animals to help you learn more about each one to ensure you find the right match! Once you find a match, the staff will introduce you to the animal in an area outside the kennel or cage so you can interact with the animal.
Step 3: Adopt
Most times, you are able to take your new best friend home the same day you meet them! The adoption contract and paperwork can be finalized the day of your visit. If the animal is awaiting their spay/neuter procedure, the animal will remain at the shelter to be picked up by the adopter on a designated date.
Holds
If you need extra time to gather your lease, household members, or your canine companion needs to come in for a meet & greet with the adoptable dog, we offer a $25.00 non-refundable hold for 24 hours. If the adoption is finalized, the amount will be deducted from the adoption fee.
Note: We do not accept holds over the phone, via email, or social media. They are only offered after you meet with an animal at the adoption center.
Adoption Guidelines
If you plan to adopt, there are a few basics to bring along with you:
- A valid form of photo ID (adopters must be 18 years or older)
- Proof of address
- If you rent, we encourage you to talk with your landlord about bringing home a pet. If pets are permitted, verify with your landlord if there are breed or species restrictions.
- We encourage all individuals who will be in regular contact with your new pet meet before you take the pet home! This includes: children, significant other, and your existing dog (if you’re adopted a dog), or your rabbit (if adopting a rabbit).
Note: We do not offer cat to cat introductions, nor different species meetings. We will provide you with resources on proper introductions.
Adoption Fees
Adoption fees are charged to help us offset some of our costs for caring for the thousands of animals that enter our doors each year. All animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped, given vaccinations appropriate for their age at the time of adoption, treated for parasites, and given flea/tick protection. In addition, dogs (6 months or older) are tested for heartworm.
