Tutoring and Behavior Modification
Tutoring and Behavior Modification courses are available for those in need of professional guidance, protocols, solutions or management measures for specific behaviors. Several of the short tutoring sessions are helpful for fine tuning skills needed for CGC or TDI testing.

Reactive Dog Behavior Modification Program
Is your dog reactive (lunging, barking, growling) toward other dogs when on a leash? This class is packed with valuable tips, techniques, materials and training equipment.
This class will assist with learning calming techniques, improving handling skills, interpreting canine body language, decreasing stress, increasing confidence and teaching your dog to react appropriately when seeing another dog. The training is based on positive methods – including food rewards and clicker training. The goal of this class is to have dogs see and pass another dog in a calm manner. On leash interaction is based on the dog’s progress throughout the course.
Instructor may recommend students repeat this course. These students will receive a reduced rate for the class.
Note: This class does NOT address aggression toward humans or dogs that are only aggressive toward other dogs when off leash. Instructor may suggest private sessions to address these behaviors.
Age Appropriate: 6 months or older
Course Duration: 6 learning sessions (one hour per week)

First time student tuition includes training harness, clicker & educational materials
Prerequisite: You must contact the training department prior to registration for a Reactive Dog questionnaire/application to complete for review to determine if your dog will benefit from this course. Participation in the class is by instructor permission only. Instructor may suggest joining the class as an observer only.
First class is orientation for people only – no dogs. Dogs will be assigned future class dates.
Reactive Dog Information Session (HUMANS ONLY)
A reactive dog is defined as a dog on leash who will bark, lunge and/or growl at other dogs, people or objects. This is a common behavioral problem that can lead to frustration and/or embarrassment for pet parents. This information session is designed to provide you with support & management techniques. Topics covered are:
- Understanding Canine Body Language
- Recognizing Reactivity and Triggers
- Recommended training tools & equipment
- Next step for your dog’s individual training needs
Course Duration: One hour session *This is for humans only. NO DOGS PERMITTED.*
Tuition: $50.00 / membership discount does NOT apply
A one hour tutoring session is useful if you need a little extra help to raise your dog or brush up on certain skills. Rates are $75.00 for a 60- minute session. Appointments can be made from Monday to Thursday, between 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, depending on day’s schedule. Limited appointment times are available on Saturday and Sunday.

Tutoring sessions do not address: dog to human aggression or bites to humans, dogs or other animals.
A private lesson may be the best option for you and your dog. Make an appointment with our instructors and meet at our shelter location about your concerns. Rates are $90.00 for a 60-minute session.
