Animal Tales is a volunteer reading program for school-aged children and it’s back for 2020!
- This new program will still have the focus of literacy and shelter enrichment, but now with even more learning components and additional volunteer opportunities. Animal Tales is a program in which children sit and read to the animals in our shelter. This not only helps to build confidence and fluency in the child’s reading but it also helps to socialize the animals in our care.
- New for 2020, the focus for this program will be reading and understanding animal behavior, enrichment and more. In order to attend any of the reading sessions, students must attend an orientation session. At this session, we will review the program, how to navigate our Shelter, and most importantly, how to understand dog, cat and rabbit behavior. We will review additional enrichment opportunities, and how to alter your body language to make the animals more comfortable.
- Children can attend the orientation session alone if they are capable of reading independently. If you are planning on attending the reading sessions with your reader, please plan on attending the orientation session with them.
Dates and pricing can be found at the ticketing here.
