Teen Basic Manners

Look at your pup’s behavior and recognize it for what it is – canine teenagers! Similar to human teens, your pup will want to break the rules, test your patience and seem to forgotten what he/she has learned. Don’t worry – This course is designed to teach (or review) the basic exercises of sit & stay, walking nicely on a leash, recalls (come when called) and loads more. Your instructor will coach you through the teenage phase. Ultimately, the gradual build up of training will result in a successful relationship between you and your dog.

Sports and Fun

Learning through exercise, activities & entertainment

*These classes are currently unavailable, but please check back as we continue to add classes!

Nosework Beginnings

A dog nose is a powerful thing – we smell vegetable soup and a dog smells each separate ingredient. This six-week class combines a dog’s natural sense of smell and desire to find items into a fun experience. Dogs are encouraged to “find it” using toys and essential oil (such as birch). Praise, toys and treats are used to reward the dog’s efforts.

Class prerequisite: Dogs must be able to work in a space with other dogs and people in close proximity.

Canine Enrichment Games

In this four-week class you will learn about games, products, and activities that will help work your dog both mentally and physically, even in small spaces. Each week, your dog will explore a new enrichment activity that will help tire out your pup.

Class prerequisite: Dogs must be able to work in a space with other dogs and people in close proximity.

Puppy Social

In this one-hour social, puppies will play together and learn critical social skills and develop doggy manners that will serve them well throughout their lives! Attendees will receive valuable information on puppy play and body language as well as pointers on common puppy issues such as house-training and proper dietary needs.

Class prerequisite: Dogs must be able to work in a space with other dogs and people in close proximity.

Tutoring & Testing

Schedule a session for specific skills or behavior matters, or sign up for a certification test.

Tutoring Sessions

A one hour tutoring session is useful if you need a little extra help to raise your dog or brush up on certain skills. Appointments are made based on trainer availability. One-on-one sessions are held at both of our shelter locations. Contact classes@humaneanimalrescue.org to inquire and schedule.

Tutoring sessions do not address: dog to human aggression or bites to humans, dogs, or other animals.

Therapy Dog International Test

Completion of Therapy Dog Preparation Class before testing is strongly advised. The TDI test is divided into 2 phases— individual & group, and has 13 testing exercises. This test is offered several times throughout the calendar year, but each test is limited to 16 dogs.

Note: Payment is due at time of online registration. If payment is not promptly made, your testing slot will not be held.
