What are the Junior Rehabber Corps?

Junior Rehabber Corps offers behind the scenes lessons at our Wildlife Rehabilitation Center
and gives students an educational experience that they won’t get anywhere else!

In order to give middle and high school students more learning opportunities, Humane Animal Rescue is expanding the Junior Rehabber Corps program! We have added a second program that is based on hands-on experience with animal husbandry. The original program has been renamed “JRC I: Research & Wildlife Rehab Focus”, and the new session is titled “JRC II: Hands-on Husbandry Focus”; descriptions can be found below. Students are only able to participate in only one program at a time. The cost of either program is $250 for six months.

Junior Rehabber Corps I is an educational program and career exploration opportunity designed to introduce students to the topics of wildlife rehabilitation and wildlife biology.

Two Saturdays a month for six months, students will meet at Humane Animal Rescue’s Wildlife Center to learn about local wildlife and the work that goes into treating injured animals at our rehabilitation clinic. The program aims at fostering creativity and curiosity in the sciences.

Our goal is to teach students about local wildlife and give them the tools to design their own project using data collected over the course of the program. At the end of the six months, students will present on a topic of their choice to friends and family.

Not only will students learn valuable academic skills and meet real professionals in the field, but they will also become the next generation of leaders for wildlife conservation.

For two hours every other Saturday for six months, students will meet at Humane Animal Rescue’s Wildlife Center to learn about the ins and outs of taking care of our education ambassador animals though lessons followed by hands-on activities. This covers topics such as understanding animal needs and biosecurity, creating diet prep and enrichment and learning about enclosure design and quality care.

Students will use their knowledge gained over the course of the program to design their own enrichment project for an education ambassador! At the end of the six months, students will present their enrichment projects to the animals in front of their friends and family.

The program aims to introduce students who may be interested in a career working with animals to the many facets involved in giving animals the best quality of life possible. Not only will students get career exposure, hands-on experience, and valuable education, but they will also be helping enrich the lives of our ambassador animals.
