Onsite Programs

We’re proud to offer specialty classes and programs for animal advocates of all ages. Browse our offerings below and check back for more as they become available.

Field Trips are available at all three of our locations, and give students a behind the scenes look at what it takes to care for domestic animals or rehabilitate native PA wildlife! Each field trip includes a program presented on-site and a tour of the facility. Each Field Trip lasts about 2 hours, with ½ for the Tour and ½ for the program.

You must provide your own transportation for your group. Our Wildlife Rehabilitation Center location has very limited parking, so we recommend a bus or carpooling. In addition, that location has unpaved driveways, which tend to get muddy and uneven with the local weather. Please note– this can sometimes make our campus difficult to navigate in a wheelchair, although not impossible!

Chaperone Ratio: We recommend a ratio of 1 chaperone to every 12 students.

Taking a group on a tour at one of our facilities is a great way to educate others about how to love and care for animals. Explore the tours below or contact us to learn more!

Shelter Tours

  • Visit our East End or North Side Animal Resource Centers and go behind the scenes to see how we take care of all of the companion animals who find themselves with us. Learn how our state of the art facilities are designed to minimize disease transmission, care for animals and adopt them into their forever homes!

Wildlife Tours

  • Visit our Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and get a behind the scenes look at what it takes to care for sick, injured, and orphaned native Pennsylvania species. See (and smell!) native PA wildlife that is in for care, and meet our Education Ambassadors that help us teach about wildlife!

Scouts can earn both badges and awards for completing community service projects that help our organization function better and foster an appreciation for animals of all different species.

New! Animal Tales Teen Mentor

Since volunteering at the shelter is not possible until age 18, we try to offer other ways for teens to volunteer. Therefore, we’ve created an opportunity for teens to volunteer at the shelter by being a Teen Mentor as a part of our Animal Tales reading program.  Animal Tales is a program in which children ages 4-12 can come and read to animals in the shelter. The Teen Mentors (who are ages 13-17) will act as a reading buddy to those children reading to animals. Teens will not only earn valuable experience working with children and in an animal environment, but also help enrich the lives of animals and children alike. Learn more here!

Junior Camp Counselors

As a Junior Camp Counselor, you can help facilitate Camp Rescue at either our domestic shelter or Wildlife Rehabilitation Center – or both! This opportunity has been designed to foster skills in areas such as leadership, animal handling, personal accountability, and communication. Learn more and apply here.

Junior Rehabber Corps

Junior Rehabber Corps offers behind the scenes lessons at our Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and gives students an educational experience that they won’t get anywhere else! Find out more and fill out an application here.

We’re proud to offer Camp Rescue at both our Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and East End shelter locations! Camps serve to educate children about the wild animals that surround us, as well as the companion animals living in our homes, in an engaging and fun way!
