Vaccine Information

What is recommended for your pet?

Cats

Rabies vaccine: Core vaccine, required by law.

Feline FVRCP/”Distemper” vaccine: Core vaccine, highly recommended. Includes Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia (feline version of parvovirus).

Feline Leukemia (FeLV) vaccine: Non-core, optional. Highly recommended for any cat that goes outside or has exposure to cats who go outside.

FeLV/FIV testing: Recommended that all cats get tested (especially cats who go outside or are exposed to cats who go outside). Required before giving FeLV vaccine.

 

Dogs

Rabies vaccine: Core vaccine, required by law.

Canine DHPP/”Distemper” vaccine: Core vaccine, highly recommended. Includes Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus.

Bordetella/”Kennel Cough” vaccine: Non-core, optional. Recommended for pets that go to grooming facilities, dog parks, boarding facilities, doggy daycare, etc.

Leptospirosis vaccine: Non-core, optional. Recommended for pets that are exposed to urine of small wildlife (i.e. skunks, groundhogs, squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons).

Lyme vaccine: Non-core, optional. Recommended for pets that are exposed to ticks (walks, camping, hiking, dog parks)

Canine Vaccines

Rabies vaccine No First vaccine is good for 1 year

Next vaccine is good for 3 years if booster is not overdue

DHPP vaccine Yes If under 20 weeks of age, if it’s the first vaccine, or if no proof of previous vaccine
Bordetella vaccine No First vaccine is good for 1 year
Lepto vaccine Yes If it’s the first vaccine or no proof of previous vaccine
Lyme vaccine Yes If it’s the first vaccine or no proof of previous vaccine

 

Feline Vaccines

Rabies vaccine No First vaccine is good for 1 year

Next vaccine is good for 3 years if booster is not overdue

FVRCP vaccine Yes If under 20 weeks of age, if it’s the first vaccine, or if no proof of previous vaccine
FeLV vaccine Yes If it’s the first vaccine or no proof of previous vaccine
